::  State Exports Connecticut

Shipments abroad from Connecticut exporters surged 12.3 percent in August, following a 0.8 percent rise in July.

The recent snapshot in international trade accounts brought Connecticut's foreign sales to $750.9 million, seasonally adjusted, which is $82.5 million more than the previous month.

On an annual basis, last August's reading of state exports shows gains in foreigners' demand for goods made in Connecticut.

In August of this year, exporters sent abroad $96.2 million, or 14.7 percent, more goods than in August 2003.

Manufactured goods, an engine to export growth and a key creator of local jobs, accounted for 89.3 percent of all state exports in August.

 Foreign shipments from manufacturing companies rose sharply in August by 11.9 percent from the previous month to $670.9 million, adjusted for seasonal variation.
